Jay’s Beef never disappoints! Their Italian beef is absolutely delicious — I went with sweet peppers and it was prepared perfectly. The sandwich was dipped just right, not overly soaked but definitely not dry, exactly how a beef should be. The flavors were spot on and the bread held up beautifully.
The fries were just as impressive — perfectly salted, crisp, and golden, the ideal side to a great beef. Every bite reminded me why Jay’s is a go-to spot. Consistent quality, amazing taste, and always satisfying. Highly recommend!

This place is mentioned quite often when you search for best italian beef in chicago.
This place is far from me, small roads, but I was in the neighborhood and decided to try.
Another hyped local spot I guess?
They did have their own made hot peppers, but overall, it was underwhelming. A bit dry, not enough flavor in the meat and au jus.
Also tried meatball sandwich (not in the picture), was also okay, nothing special.

Came here for the first time and got just an Italian beef, dipped, with hot peppers. I wanted to see how it compares to the other Italian beef joints I've had. My experience was great. The beef was delicious. It's not my #1, but it does land in my top 5. The price seemed a bit high, but nothing crazy. The flavor was delicious, and I really liked the homemade giardiniera that they seemed to use. I would highly recommend this place if you're in the area.

The place is run down. Some of the tables are collapsing. Italian sausage is pretty good, but the beef is big slabs not shredded like it should be when I showed the person, he just said sorry about that

I grew up visiting the location that was in Mt Prospect/Des Plaines and was sad when it closed. Recently I heard the Harwood Heights location is still open. My brother, sister, nephew, and I went for a nostalgic experience. It was awesome to see Frank, the owner, still active behind the counter taking orders and making beef sandwhichs. Truely a great experience and Yes, after 30 years the taste is still the best in all Chicago.

Solid Italian Beef. Fries were piping hot fresh and very delicious. Service was top tier. The workers were very professional & very kind. To be 100% honest, i prefer some other locations that have a bit more flavor to their beef, but still have a lot of respect for this Jays location. The neighborhood support for this spot is legendary. Bathrooms were a bit run down. Lock didn't work in the men's bathroom stall.

I joined a Facebook page dedicated to Chicago Italian beef sandwiches and this is one beloved spot and they are 100% spot on.
The outside has a nice patio area that has to be a big draw in the summer. The inside is spacious and clean.
The staff is friendly and typically old school knowing the lingo to deliver the beef just the way you like it.
The sandwiches one of the largest I’ve seen and it PACKED with meat-I mean PACKED. The giardinara is the freshest I’ve seen and the taste is unforgettable with the right amount of heat and flavor. The hot oil also offers the exact balance. The heat doesn’t hit you, it sits nicely blended with the peppers and veggies.
The fries were fried to perfection with a delicious crisp on the outside and a fluffy potato on the inside.
This is not around the corner for me but this is going to be the place I go to when I want a really good beef.

Had greatest opportunity to try a juicy Italian beef sandwich from Jays tonight thanks to my family that lives here in Chicago. The hot pepper are a great touch.
They have great customer service too. They gave us delicious Italian ice while we waited for our order! 10/10 would recommend :)

Extremely thin deli slicer sliced beef. (Their automatic slicer is cool as hell)
Relatively fast service and friendly.
Beef tears immediately. However, it's layered like they took a neat stack of shaved beef and dipped it, and put it on the sandwich without separating most of it. To me, it feels like I'm biting into a deli sandwich instead of an italian beef in some spots.
The roll gives a weird off note right as the first taste, then followed by the beef.
0 spice heat from the juice.
Far too little seasoning to meat ratio personally.
The smell upon entering the restaurant was amazing, and I'm sure some of the other items I saw people order are great.
But without giardanra to cover the lack of seasoning/spice, its not on terms with Michael's in Oak Park or Frannies in Schiller Park, but better than a Portillo's or Buona Beef.
That was fine, but not worth going out of the way myself personally.

10 spots, maybe around the outside of the property. Tight for getting out of anything past the first couple spots for a large sedan.
